Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.

Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she's still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate's mate.

So when Atlanta's premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price.

Kate has now struck out on her own, too bad she can’t drum up any business! When she does get a break, it’s from the most unexpected place. I kind of knew there was a different side to Ghastek. I don’t think he’s as bad as we’re supposed to think.

After a job well done, Kate gets offered another job! On a roll! This is the big storyline to Magic Slays and brings in some serious baddies. We see that despite Curran’s efforts, his little plan to keep Kate safe at work isn’t as rock solid as he thought.

I was so excited! Andrea comes back! It’s hard to reveal where she’s been and what’s she’s been through. But the main fact is… she’s back! I always thought Andrea and Kate made a great team, and now it’s going to be full time! Due to the plans of the enemy, Andrea’s skills are going to be needed.

Magic Slays was really emotional in a lot of ways. I think the only time I felt real joy was when Andrea returns. The Pack and Kate take a lot of hits. There are some really heart breaking moments, so be prepared for the feels. I’m still unsure on the decision Kate makes at the end. It was decided on emotions, and I know Kate’s heart couldn’t deal with any other choice. But what she does opens many doors and can put a lot of people at risk. That was one of her points to NOT becoming part of the Pack. This may bring on what she feared.

I thought this was an AWESOME addition to the series. It may not focus entirely on the overall personal storyline Kate has going, but there is that little nugget as a hint of what’s to come. The story was exciting and had so much action. It kept you on your toes.

I have to mention the narration. It was truly amazing and I love listening to this story! Raudman’s voice takes me right into the story and I feel like I’m living it. So good!
