Now, Ilona Andrews delves deeper into Kate’s world, and reveals its untold stories… After being kicked out of the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea’s whole existence is in shambles. She tries to put herself back together by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend. When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano—the male alpha of the Clan Bouda, and Andrea’s former lover—die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate. Now she must work with Raphael as her search for the killer leads into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta. And dealing with her feelings for him might have to take a back seat to saving the world…
I was really excited to get an Andrea story. Andrea has been a great friend to Kate. She is tough and aggressive. Not to say she doesn’t have faults, but she is truly an awesome character.
Andrea has been gone a long time, and this book is not long after she returns. She’s forced to work with her ex Raphael. These two know how to play crazy head games with each other. The first encounter, Raphael pissed me off so bad! He really pulled a number on Andrea and I just wanted to beat him over the head! His outright attack to Andrea’s feelings is almost unforgivable. But, this is Raphael, and of course, he’ll play his way out of it. The mating rituals get so out of control its hilarious! Those two really know how to make a statement!
Roman becomes a more prominent character, and his attitude causes some relationship tension. I really enjoyed him and his part in the story. He’s a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see how much more he brings to the series. Barabas makes a big appearance. I didn’t realize he played the Pack’s lawyer as well. Comes in handy now that Andrea is not in the Order. Of course, she’s not officially in the Pack either, so having the Beast Lord’s mate for a best friend comes in handy!
Everyone works together to keep this creepy, evil character from gathering enough strength to take on the worst of the worst. Some of the creatures really freaked me out. I hate snakes. Andrea really does the business proud and shows Atlanta that Cutting Edge can take on some big jobs.
Greatest moment: Purple shag carpet!
