Even in the fathomless depths of the underworld and the bleak chambers of a damaged heart, the bonds of love can heal…or destroy.

He holds the ability to annihilate souls in the palm of his hand. He commands the respect of the most dangerous of demons and the most powerful of angels. He can seduce and dominate any female he wants with a mere look. But for all Azagoth’s power, he’s bound by shackles of his own making, and only an angel with a secret holds the key to his release.

She’s an angel with the extraordinary ability to travel through time and space. An angel with a tormented past she can’t escape. And when Lilliana is sent to Azagoth’s underworld realm, she finds that her past isn’t all she can’t escape. For the irresistibly sexy fallen angel known as Azagoth is also known as the Grim Reaper, and when he claims a soul, it’s forever…

I loved being back in this world! The Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series are definitely one of my favorites, so I just had to read this novella.

What I did not expect was for this so called “bad” guy to get his own love story. You get kind of a glimpse that Azagoth has a bit of a soft spot for his children, especially Idess, but for the most part, he IS the Grim Reaper with a pretty cold job. If you look close enough, you can find vulnerabilities in a lot of the tough, ruthless men, and Lilliana manages to find a few things that Azagoth truly longs for. She brings him unexpected feeling of joy and happiness that just don’t fit his job title. It is a BIG deal for him to give into these feelings, so when there are misunderstandings in their relationship the steel curtain will fall. He will revert to what he knows best and that is his cruel self.

Lilliana is kind of innocent, and I don’t think she really, truly understood what she was in for. Her plans certainly get derailed and cause some major issues. She doesn’t have the experience to handle the consequences of what she has started, so really has to be imaginative to bring the whole thing together.

It was so fun seeing Azagoth step out and see things he has been restricted from for centuries. His true joy really made you see a bit into him that would otherwise be hidden behind that evil persona. Azagoth’s evil side made it really hard for Lilliana to prove herself, but when she finally got through to him, his world, even his surroundings, show his joy. It was heart warming and really made me fall in love with him. Despite his Grim Reaper job.

I’m glad I snatched up this great novella! It was definitely worth the read. You could even read this as a standalone. Such a great story of the changes love can make in a person and world.
