Some things are so worth waiting for. Like the moment when Jessica Ward "accidentally" bumps into Bobby Ray Smith and shows him just how far she's come since high school. Back then, Jess's gangly limbs and bruised heart turned to jelly any time Smitty's "all the better to ravish you with" body came near her. So, some things haven't changed. Except now Jess is a success on her own terms. And she can enjoy a romp - or 20 -with a big, bad wolf and walk away. Easy.
The sexy, polished CEO who hires Smitty's security firm might be a million miles from the lovable geek he knew, but her kiss, her touch, is every bit as hot as he imagined. Jess was never the kind to ask for help, and she doesn't want it now, not even with someone targeting her Pack. But Smitty's not going to turn tail and run. Not before proving that their sheet-scorching animal lust is only the start of something even wilder.

I’m listening to the Pride series for a lighthearted PNR that will make me laugh. Granted, I do still want some action and of course the romance. I found I got a little of everything in The Beast In Him without getting too deep.
Jessie Ann was a great character. I loved the way she overcame her youth and became the woman/wild dog that she is today. Her antics and crazy dog ways along with those of her pack mates, always had a smile or a laugh bubbling out of me. I think because of her past, and her kind of silly, immature ways had me a bit protective of her. Sort of like her pack mates. Getting treated with ready made bubble baths and chocolate after a bad day would be awesome.
Smitty made me want to hit him upside the head! Although, I too was a bit confused on what exactly Jessie Ann wanted in the end that would get her to give in to him. It was so obvious though that when we finally find out, I had a total “duh” moment. The poor guy ran himself in circles, probably twisted his brain inside out and tried to change himself to be what he thought Jessie Ann deserved. But some of his actions were just not thought out very well. He had good intentions, he just didn’t know how to express himself very well.
The Beast In Him made for a great read to get some laughs as well as some romance. I love the attitudes of the characters and how they interact with each other. This is definitely the kind of series you would pop in between heavy reads to give your head some clearing out.
The narration is great. Most of these characters are very southern and Charlotte Kane does very well with that. Even switching over to Dez’s Bronx accent was smooth and she didn’t miss a switch at all. Very well done accents!
The Pride series is perfect for those times when you just want a fast, relaxing, lighthearted read. I can’t wait to move onto the other characters and see what kind of trouble they can work up for each other!
