This week’s topic:

What types of books do you avoid reading/reviewing?

Being a blog that reads and reviews primarily paranormal romance and urban fantasy, it is hard to stick in reviews for other genres. I do occasionally make an exception if I’m really excited about a particular book. There are however some books that I don’t have anything in particular against, just that I’m not interested in and feel like they do not fit with my blog. Here are a few examples.

  1. Non-fiction: Unless I am trying to find answers to a specific question, I do not read non-fiction. It bores me to tears. Even biographies or autobiographies. There was a time when I did read a lot of the real crime books, but eventually had trouble sleeping.
  2. Chick-lit: I prefer to have a lot of romance and action. This genre just does not contain enough to keep me interested.
  3. YA: Ok, don’t start throwing things at me! When I read, I need to be able to relate a little more to the characters. Also, I find most are a bit angsty and contain love triangles and all the things that drive me nuts. There have been a few I’ve tried, and forced myself through because they were done by my favorite adult writers. It’s possible I’ve just picked the wrong books. I did love the Hunger Games. However, I do enjoy the hot sex in the adult books! 😉
  4. Historical romance: I just cannot transport my brain to the past. The world, politics, and stations totally baffle me. Occasionally if it is for something like book club, I will read one, and sometimes have been pleasantly surprised. But even if I do enjoy the book, I don’t feel like a review would fit on my blog.

I think those are pretty much all of the genres I typically avoid or are hesitant to pick up. Sometimes I feel like pure sci-fi and fantasy reach too far out for me, but overall I’m more open to those.

Are there any particular types of books you avoid reading or reviewing? Comment and let me know!
