Out of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it's hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty foot wingspan. Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded. But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames, in Dragonbane, the next explosive Dark-Hunter novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Wow, book 19, or 25 or something. Depends on where you look. I think anyway, the numbering system has kind of thrown me off since we so many different spin-offs. Like the Dream-Hunters and the Were-Hunters. Anyway, the point is that it is a big number. A number that is blowing my mind and making it extremely hard for me to keep track. I’ve been reading these on my Kindle. Do any of the paper versions have like a family tree or something? All of these pantheons and increase in characters is totally confusing me.

I really liked Max. He has spent so many years at Sanctuary, just living out his life. Sitting on the sidelines. He has his secrets, but no one really pushes, and he is content. Until one day a group of Amazon women descend on Sanctuary looking for Max. Here we meet Seraphina, who pulls a total surprise on Max.

Seraphina has really done a number on Max. In my opinion, forgiveness came way too fast. But then you think of all the years that he has suppressed it all and you can understand his desperation to have what was meant to be his.

Just as we start to get to a good point, Max’s secret gets out and now everyone is looking for him. This tentative trust he has built is going to get put to the test.

This is where I got really confused. The people that were after him, what they wanted, which pantheon characters are coming from… Whew, it was a lot. Despite that though, I really did enjoy the story of Maxis and Seraphina. The Dark Hunters is a very long, long series, but I think a re-read, or at least some kind of map would be helpful.

Dragonbane was a really good, quick read which I believe is leading us into even more conflict. Things are heating up again and I think we are going to see more of the older characters coming up.
