I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Angels of the Dark tale about a winged warrior renowned for his ruthlessness, and the woman who becomes his obsession...

A tormented past has left Thane with an insatiable need for violence, making him the most dangerous assassin in the skies.
He lives by a single code: no mercy. And as he unleashes his fury on his most recent captor, he learns no battle could have prepared him for the slave he rescues from his enemy's clutches—a beauty who stokes the fires of his darkest desires.

Elin Vale has her own deep-rooted scars, and her attraction to the exquisite warrior who freed her challenges her every boundary.
But Thane's unwavering determination to protect her means she must face her greatest fears—and enter a world in which passion is power, and victory means breathtaking surrender.

I was so excited to receive this book for review. The previous two were great, but I was excited to learn more about the mysterious, hard-ass Thane. Burning Dawn starts out with him a prisoner of a Phoenix camp, under the influence of Kendra’s poison. Elin, another prisoner of the camp decides Thane is her ticket to freedom if she can just get him out from under that poison.

Elin may be a small human, but her determination and attitude matches that of her new barmaid friends at Downfall. Despite Elin’s assertions that she can take care of herself and she doesn’t need Thane’s protection, he nevertheless feels obligated to Elin for his freedom. Or is it obligation he feels? Thane wants her safe, and avenged, and possibly his?

I cannot put to words how much I love this world! The female characters are so funny! They are immortal, and have such a kick ass attitude that you can’t help but love them SO much. The link to the gals of the Lords of the Underworld series was there, and I loved getting to see them too. They all believe themselves to be indestructible and the best at everything. Their trash talk is so awesome they had me busting a gut laughing. I just love them all so much!

Thane, Xerxes and Bjorn are closer than any of the other Sent Ones and will follow each other into hell and back. The hell each of these guys must live through is horrible, but the brothers are there for each other to help picking up the pieces after each tragedy. Thane is so unsure of how to handle the way he feels about Elin and his attempts to gain her favor are heart melting. For such a big, bad sent one, he has a sweet, romantic side, whether he wants to admit it or not.

I think each one of these Angels of the Dark installments just keeps getting better. Elin is just so good for Thane and their romance is so sweet. I love this couple. The common threads between Angels of the Dark and Lords of the Underworld just has me so excited and helps contain some of my impatience waiting between new releases for each of the series. I have decided that I really love Axel. Not only is he hot, but he is so cocky and funny. I can’t wait to read more about him. Now to try and dig up some patience to wait for the next Lords of the Underworld book, The Darkest Touch featuring Torin coming up November 25th, 2014.
