Charley Davidson may not look like your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper, but she has vowed to reap grimness wherever she goes despite this unfortunate fact. Sadly, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. As he is the main suspect in her arson case, she is determined to stay away from him until she can find out the truth. According to her therapist, however, she lacks conviction.
When dead women start appearing in her apartment - lost, confused and terrified beyond reason - Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes's help, especially when it becomes apparent that her own sister Gemma is the serial killer's next target. With his ability to observe incorporeally, surely he can find out who's responsible. And even if he can't, he is the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return: Charley. All of her - body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay…
Yum, much more Charley & Reyes time this book. There relationship has become very interesting, and what would seem like oh so terrible trade for favors, I don’t think can be considered so terrible. I’m sure Charley doesn’t see them as terrible either.
In Fifth Grave Past the Light, one of the cases is the arson case. Is the arsonist really Reyes or is there someone else at play? I really didn’t want it to be Reyes because I want him doing all good things. Like his new job. The whole city’s female population is visiting the bar because of it’s new employee.
Cookie goes undercover to help Charley catch a possible cheating husband and boy does that turn out just hunky dory! With Cookie’s wonderful fashion sense and the extra packing, things of course get a bit out of control. Not good considering the cheating husband is a very violent man. Luckily for Cookie, Charley had a great concealed weapons guy that can get Cookie on track.
[quote]“My phone pinged. It was a text from Cookie.
I’m not good at cocking guns.
Really? Did she not know me at all?
I texted her back.
You can do this. Learn the cock, Cookie.
Know the cock.
Be the cock.”

Charley also has to find the reason her apartment is suddenly swarming with dead women. The case turns personal when Charley’s sister Gemma is believed to be the next victim. Charley will do anything to protect her sister, including Reyes’s payment for protecting Gemma. Such an awesome offer, who could resist! I mean seriously, who wouldn’t want to give themselves to Reyes?!
Another great moment is Charley’s GPS app. It was hilarious, the different voices that she could listen too. I don’t know if I could handle the Ozzy Osbourne one without laughing my ass off and missing my turns just to hear him speak.
[quote]“The funny thing about GPS was it didn’t always send you in the right direction.
I knew that if I took a right and took Twelfth instead, I’d get there faster, so I turned right. Ozzy did not approve.
“Wut the foock?”

Darynda Jones has done it again, or should I say, she just keeps getting better. This series will consume you until you have read all 5 books. And then you are going to be clammering for book six, just like me. Especially with the way this one ends. Whew, it was a scorcher ending!
Thanks for following our week of Charley Davidson, I hope you pick up the books and drop me a note to let me know what you think.
