With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon to try and find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not. Inside is a man named Alex. And with him is an extraordinary little girl who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader. Artemis, who isn't exactly as she appears.
Soon it becomes clear that Nate must make a choice: let himself drown in the memories of his past, or fight for a future he never thought possible. Because the girl is special. And forces are descending upon them who want nothing more than to control her.

I adore T.J. Klune’s books, so I had to give this one a try. The story was not what I was expecting at all. The blurb says it is perfect for fans of Stranger Things and I 100% agree with that. This is listed as a thriller; I would mark it more as sci-fi. It has a M/M romance aspect and is full of action and adventure.
Down on his luck, Nate has lost everything. He heads to his family’s cabin to just figure out his life and is very rudely surprised to find it occupied by a man with a young girl and a gun pointed at him. We find out that Alex is there to protect Artemis, an incredibly special young girl that you cannot help but love. They say the oddest things and you slowly unravel bit by bit what is happening. Nate is left to choose to help them or continue with his life. With plenty of twists and turns you will not see coming, this read will keep you on your toes and stay in your thoughts.
