Anthropologist Jillian Ramsay's career has taken a turn south.

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations. Mermaids and gator shifters swim in the bayou. Spirit bottles light the front porches after twilight. Dragons light the fires under crayfish pots.

Jillian's first assignment for the League could be her last. Mystic Bayou is wary of outsiders, and she has difficulty getting locals to talk to her. And she can't get the gruff town sheriff, Bael Boone, off of her back or out of her mind. Bael is the finest male specimen she's seen in a long time, even though he might not be human. Soon their flirtation is hotter than a dragon's breath, which Bael just might turn out to be....

I’m so excited that Molly Harper has a new PNR out. I was worried when most of her new releases were contemporary that I wouldn’t get to visit her paranormal side. When I first heard of this book, I thought it would be along the lines of her other series, Half Moon Hollow.

How to Date Your Dragon is actually a change from Half Moon Hollow in where most of the creatures are shifters. There is not a focus on vampires. However, the snarky characters, the mystery, the romance, they are all there.

Jillian Ramsay gets sent to Mystic Bayou to study how the shifters have integrated into society with the humans there. She finds herself in a town that doesn’t really want her there, especially the sheriff. Or does he really want her gone? Jillian is determined to do her job and get the information she needs. Even if there are a couple of murders in town.

I liked Jillian and Bael enough, but I totally fell in love with Zed. That bear had me laughing in every scene he was in. Mystic Bayou is filled with interesting characters that I think can really make for a great series. A few times it seemed like Molly Harper reused names from the Half Moon Hollows series so it would take me a second to remember they really weren’t the same characters.

How To Date Your Dragon was a fun listen. With great characters and amazing narrators this story had me finding excuses to drive in the car so I could listen. I know I will be entertained and have a good laugh with a Molly Harper story. I also know that it will be an amazing listen with Amanda Ronconi as one of the narrators. One of my top author/narrator combos.
