I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I’m Shimmer, a blue dragon shifter. Thanks to a mistake, I was exiled from the Dragon Reaches and sentenced to work for Alex Radcliffe, a vampire who owns the Fly by Night Magical Investigations Agency. Now, not only do I have to adapt to Earthside culture, but every time I turn around, somebody’s trying to kill us. And worse, Alex is as gorgeous as he is exasperating. But you know what they say: All’s fair in love and bounty hunting…

When an old friend of Alex contacts him about a haunting at the High Tide Bed & Breakfast in Port Townsend, Washington, we think we’re on a simple ghost hunt. But our investigation quickly transforms into a deadly fight as we uncover an eighty-year-old murder, a cursed house, and a dark force trapping the spirits within. To stop impending disaster we must break the curse and lay the angry spirits to rest.

Flight From Death was my first Yasmine Galenorn book, so I was able to go in with no expectations. That is the fun of new to you authors, especially those that write multiple series.

Shimmer is a dragon shifter who has been banned to earth and to work for Alex Radcliffe as an investigator. Shimmer has never been to earth before and is trying to navigate her way through the world as humans live. This makes for some good, laughable time as she doesn’t understand a lot of the technology or slang that people use now. She has met some people through the agency that are helping her along so she isn’t totally left in the dark. There were a few places I wondered how she would know this thing or that, but for the most part the author stayed pretty true to what Shimmer would or would not have already been exposed to.

Alex runs the Fly By Night investigative agency and is called by an old friend to help out with problem with his bed and breakfast he is getting ready to open. It seems that it is full of some kind of ghostly activity and he needs it identified and eliminated. This is kind of a big deal for Shimmer to be included on this case. This B&B ghost hunt turns into more than just regular old ghosts. There is something evil trapped in this place and it is going to take the Fly By Night team and a few locals to help.

The story had good mystery to it and I really enjoyed the characters. I was a bit blah on the love interest between Shimmer and Alex. I don’t know how I feel about his admission of wanting Shimmer while he was still with his ex. I know that happens a lot in real life though. Some people are leery of how unstable people will take being dumped. So, I wasn’t as bothered by it as others were. What surprised me most was that the story took over the mystery in my head when I was reading. Normally, I cling to the romantic parts, but with Flight From Death, I was really into the story as a whole.
