From New York Times bestselling and Hugo Award-winning author T. Kingfisher comes Hemlock & Silver, a dark reimagining of “Snow White” steeped in poison, intrigue, and treason of the most magical kind.

Healer Anja regularly drinks poison.

Not to die, but to save— seeking cures for those everyone else has given up on.

But a summons from the King interrupts her quiet, herb-obsessed life. His daughter, Snow, is dying, and he hopes Anja’s unorthodox methods can save her.

Aided by a taciturn guard, a narcissistic cat, and a passion for the scientific method, Anja rushes to treat Snow, but nothing seems to work. That is, until she finds a secret world, hidden inside a magic mirror. This dark realm may hold the key to what is making Snow sick.

Or it might be the thing that kills them all.

Anja is a healer that deals with poisons. After seeing firsthand how deadly poisons are, she makes it her mission in life to try to find cures. Well known for her skills, she is approached by the King about his daughter, Snow. Snow is growing increasingly sicker and the King fears there is foul play involved. Anja goes to the castle and in her search for what is ailing Snow, she stumbles upon a magical mirror. It is a race to see if she can figure out what is going on before it claims Snow’s life.

T. Kingfisher weaves such beautifully intriguing stories. She is an instant buy for me; I cannot get enough of her books. I loved that this had elements of Snow White, and even Alice in Wonderland since there is a talking cat that helps her along her journey and of course the magic mirror. I appreciate that she did not rely heavily on the retelling aspect, she made the story her own. Overall, I really loved this book and highly suggest it if you enjoy fantasy books with a dash of retellings mixed in.

The narration was amazing in this book! It fit the characters well and I just wound up loving the story even more.
