Bookish Life Budget ~ May 2022 Update

How did spring get away from us so fast? Now into summer? How is a person supposed to keep up? We didn’t do much in May. However, my Mother’s Day gift had me so excited! I was given the whole hardcover version of Dannika Dark’s Mageri series. It was such an amazing gift. When I heard “hardcover” I was thinking of the hardcovers I get for other books. But these are different. There are no dust jackets and the art is right on the cover. They are shiny. Definitely different than what I was expecting, but welcome all the same. Now to get the Seven series! I don’t think I’m going to get the hardcovers of the Crossbreed series because I have all the paperbacks, and I love those covers. For the Mageri and Seven series hardcovers, all the covers were changed to new artwork. Kind of disappointing, but I still love them.

Another bookish thing I have been doing is shopping at the new Kresley Cole merch store. SO many cool Immortals After Dark things. I got 3 tshirts and some stickers. I’m hoping they put joggers on there. Kind of keeping my fingers crossed. Because they are not books, I did not put them in my budget. I probably should have created a column for that kind of stuff. But I don’t usually buy merch.

Also, a friend and I have been talking about going to Coastal Magic in Florida in February. I didn’t budget for any conventions, so if I buy my ticket now, it will have to come out of this year’s budget. However, if I wait until January, I could work it into 2023’s budget. Kind of on the fence, because if I’m going to go I would like to start making arrangements. Is anyone else going?

Category Amount Spent this Month Remaining Balance
B&N Membership Renewal $0.00 $0.00 $0.00
Audible Subscription $195.04 $24.38 $170.66
Books (Ebooks, paperbacks & hardcovers) $651.48 $61.41 $590.07
Total: $846.52 $85.79 $760.73

So I’ve talked about these amazing Mageri books that I hauled. So excited by those. Also, King of Midnight by Lara Adrian is the final book in the Midnight Breed series. I’m excited to read it! I’m also continuing my reread of the Immortals After Dark series. I haven’t reviewed the earlier books in this series so I’m thinking about doing that. I have to say, only one of my books/ebooks is an ebook this month. All the rest are physical copies. I’ve been staring at my shelves anticipating some rearranging. There are also some books that I just don’t think I’m interested in reading, so I might pull them and take them to HPB. That will clear up some space I think. I’ve been wondering. What do you do with physical ARCs that are not final copies? I have a bunch and I don’t think the book stores will take them and I just don’t have the room for them. Any ideas?

Anyway, here is my haul for May. It makes me happy to see!
