Bookish Life Budget 2021

July went by so fast. I worked a lot, and am so happy I got the hang of working and listening to audiobooks at the same time. I’m now almost to my Goodreads Challenge already. I haven’t counted yet to see if I’ve met my 2021 Audiobook Challenge yet. They don’t show up on the blog until I review them and I’ve been going through them so fast my pile of books to be reviewed is HUGE! I was just going down the list and reviewing in order of read, but I think I’m going to review the ARCs I received first and go back after and do the others. Do you all remember when I complained about how I accidentally went too long without using my Goodreads api, so I was going to have to hand enter my reviews at Goodreads? Anyway, I discovered that Netgalley now sends to Goodreads. I tried it out, but it kind of screwed up my list. Netgalley sent it across as the hardcover edition, and I had read and marked the audio edition so it showed up as if I read it twice. That’s kind of a bummer because I was REALLY excited about that feature.

I used to be a big planner person. Every week making and using stickers to decorate. But I discovered the world of digital planners. I feel bad that I left my precious, gorgeous Plum Paper Planner behind, but it is SO much easier to use images to decorate! I don’t quite have planner peace with this planner I have, so I would love it if other digital planners had some suggestions of good ones I could try out.

After last month, I thought I had resolved to reign in the book spending. As you can see below I didn’t. To make this even worse, that is just what I bought with my own money. I got some on gift cards I had. Then I made a trip to Half Price Books. Despite being totally overwhelmed by the size and organization of this flagship store, I ended up grabbing some. I discovered a problem though. I haven’t sorted my library spreadsheet in awhile and somehow ended up with a couple duplicates. Figures. Anyway, I am now over budget. I am either going to control my buying and not get anything else this year (yeah, right) or I am going to go completely over budget (likely). If I wasn’t going through audiobooks so quickly now, I would pause my subscription to grab a few extra bucks for books. I just really need those Audible credits though. So, I’m really going to have to use some willpower and refrain from buying as much as possible. Wish me luck!

Category Amount Spent this Month Remaining Balance
B&N Membership Renewal $0.00 $0.00 $0.00
Audible Subscription $154.78 $15.88 $139.90
Books (Ebooks, paperbacks & hardcovers) $63.73 $101.04 $-37.31
Total: $215.51 $101.04 $101.59

A lot of these acquisitions were shelf candy. I actually had a couple in my hand in Barnes and Noble until I realized the price is cheaper on Amazon, so I came home and got them. Now I’m trying to rearrange shelves. My organization really has me stuck right now.

So there are some new releases as well as some oldies. Like I said, shelf candy. I’ve been collecting the White Trash Zombie paperbacks for awhile. I am in love with their covers. Did you have a great July? How was the heat in your area? Don’t forget to drop a comment!
