I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I thought I understood power.

My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I've seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I've witnessed how power twists and corrupts--and I've tasted power no human should wield.

I thought I knew greed.

Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else's greed. I've never hunted anything in my life, but now I'm hunting their killer--with my demon's help.

I thought I'd seen evil.

But with each step closer to my parents' murderer, I'm uncovering a different sort of evil, piece by hidden piece. I've stumbled into an insidious web that silently, secretly ensnares everything it touches. My demon and I came as the hunters...

...but I think we might be the prey.

Hunting Fiends For The Ill-Equipped is another adventure for Robin and Zylas. They are still looking for Robin’s parent’s killer as well as looking for a way for Zylas to get home. Robin is characterized as shy and introverted, but she proves herself to be strong and fierce when the situation requires it.

Robin harbors many questions about Zylas. She can’t seem to see him as the unfeeling demon he is. He does things that would suggest he does have feelings, only to do something else that would crush Robin’s hopes. A relationship is building between the two and I was really excited to see it. However, that relationship brings some hard emotions.

Hunting Fiends For The Ill-Equipped contains many hold your breath moments in the situations Robin and Zylas find themselves. The action was exciting and my emotions were on a roller coaster. My heart broke many times for Robin. So much happens in this book I was constantly on edge. I really want to see Demonized continue. I love Robin and Zylas. I want to see where that goes.

We get more crossover between Spellbound and Demonized. There may be a few spoilers for Spellbound. It seems these two Guild Codex have an intermixed reading order. So definitely check that out before picking these up.

Cris Dukehart always does a great job projecting character’s emotions and the heightened intensity of situations. I really enjoy her narrations and think she does a wonderful job on this series.

About Annette Marie

Annette Marie is the author of YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced urban fantasy, bold heroines, and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She proudly admits she has a thing for dragons, and her editor has politely inquired as to whether she intends to include them in every single book.

Annette lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad). She shares her life with her remarkably patient, comparatively sensible husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.
