May 2018 Bookish Life Budget

May has gradually thrown us into summer. By the last few days, we’ve gotten up into the hundreds with heat indexes well above. I really hope this isn’t a prelude to a summer full of hundreds for us. I’m not big on this kind of heat. I like to hide inside with the air conditioning during this time of year. Of course, I hide inside with the heat during the cold months as I don’t like those either. It was sad that there was such a short spring season here. Hopefully fall will give me some more days to get outside.

This final week of May, I started doing the Keto diet. I’m still trying to adjust a few days in. I haven’t added any exercise in yet, but once my body gets adjusted I plan to add in some walking. I’m praying the heat index goes below 100 then.

May was exciting for us. We gained a family member! My son got married! They have been living together for a couple of years now so it was quite exciting for them to take that step. They make a great couple and we just love our new daughter-in-law! My son also had an amazing month with his Etsy store. I was totally blown away by the amount of sales he got in May. He does tie dye clothing and crystal jewelry. He does inventory clothing, but a lot of his business is custom dyes. He’s beyond shirts and into dresses, shorts and socks. Check out The Hippie Hideout to see the styles of dyes and different clothing he has.

Also, over at TD Crafts & Creations (my store), I’ve added some 15oz custom mugs. I have some bookish premade mugs, but I can also make custom cups with any artwork I get sent. I have some really pretty colored insulated 9oz stemless wine/juice cups ready to be customized as well as some insulated full size wine cups with stems coming in. These are great for hanging out at the pool on the patio!

We did have a sad event. Yum Yum, the pug I talked about last month with the bad eyes, had surgery to remove both eyes. I was assured that she had absolutely no sight, but I still felt guilty as hell. I was scared she had some sight and I was taking it away from her. She is getting around, but not like she used to so I am still feeling bad. I told the doctor that she is moving around like she is just getting used to the place again and I was upset that she might have had at least shadows or light sight of some kind. I was assured that her corneas were so thick and eyes so inflammed that there was no way she could see. We are still kind of doubtful. This is my baby now. She’s still beautiful.

So now on to some blog details. I didn’t buy any books this month. It’s getting close to Literary Love Savannah and I have big plans for that con. Not just book related either. I’m wanting to get a tattoo from the guest tattoo artist as well as a psychic reading. There are going to be a lot of fun shenanigans. Also, I have seen that RT is no more, but Book Lovers Con (forgive me if I screwed up the name) has taken over and will be held May of 2019 in NOLA. Needless to say. I want to go. However, like RT, tickets are in the $500 range and that’s going to take some saving up for. BUT J.R. Ward is going to be there! I didn’t think I would ever get the chance to see her, so really, it is a must that I go. Time to get my store sales up and saving towards this con. I’m hoping I can convince another blogger to travel with me again this year, but if not I may convince family to use it as another vacation. Last time we did that though, I felt guilty leaving the family alone to find their own things to do, and they ended up sitting in the hotel room most of the time which sucked. I’ll have to see how it goes. Anyway on to the budget of the month!

Category Amount Spent this Month Remaining Balance
B&N Membership Renewal $25.00 $0.00 $0.00

Some of the books I hauled this month were hard copies of eArcs I had already received. I love physical copies. I love filling my shelves with this loveliness!

That has been May for us. Busy month with lots of ups and downs. How was May for you? Did you get lots of reading in and new books?
