When Dr. Elliott Drake wakes from a mysterious fifty-year sleep, the world as he knew it is gone. Cities are now desolate, and civilization is controlled by deadly immortals. Stranger still is Elliott's extraordinary new "gift"—he has the power to heal, but it comes with fatal consequences.

A woman with a past . . .

Jade barely escaped the immortals and is now hell-bent on revenge. She trusts no one . . . until Elliott. His piercing gaze and tempting touch shatter her defenses, but the handsome doctor seems to have dangerous secrets of his own. Is it safe to trust him with her heart?

If they are to survive in this dark new world, Jade and Elliott must work together to fight the forces that take them beyond danger.

Beyond desire.

The mysterious part of Elliot & company’s sleep is still kind of confusing for me.  I’m not sure yet what was so special about these guys that made them fall into hibernation and totally miss 50 years without aging.  Hopefully I will find out more on that, probably as the characters do as they have no idea either as they travel around trying to find answers.

Elliot is a doctor, and has developed some pretty neat and very useful skills during his nap.  The problem is what happens when he uses those powers.  If he can’t learn to control them they are going to be a big hindrance in his quest for a relationship with Jade.  Elliot seems to be a very down-to-earth, intelligent guy.  He is not a big risk-taker, he does take some, but not in a big way I don’t think.  He meets Jade and she is all he can think about, and the mystery about her drives him mad.

I loved Jade.  She survived incredible torture, escaped on her own and continues on a course of revenge instead of hiding away inside Envy praying they never find her.  She puts herself right out there in the thick of the fight.  I love strong, female leads and Jade is definitely one of them.

I think there is a lot of world building in this book, but we still got a good story including great hero and heroines and a super fast paced combat scene at the end. This will be a series I come back to just so I can figure out the mystery of the guys 50 year nap.
