October was a month that included another event, so I knew going in that there were going to be some book costs. My Audible is still on pause, so I saved that payment. I did however notice that my numbers have become really jacked up. I was SO confused. I think I have it conquered now and the right numbers are in play. Only two more months and I’ll sit down to do the yearly and hopefully I’ll have it all together by then. I did remove one of the event fees I had budgeted for and added it down to my book budget. I decided not to attend, although it was a tough decision. This month I was surprised by another Amazon settlement credit. I did not add that to my budget at all, and the books I buy with that credit will not come out of this budget.

Below is the books I hauled this month. We were lucky at the Buns and Roses event and got signed copies of the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. I now have multiple copies of Burn for Me so I may have to have a giveaway!

I picked up the Terry Spears books at Buns and Roses since she was there as a signing author. Now I have to get reading her series. And they are LONG. I’m going to have to devote a lot of time to them. I hope they are good. I’m going to have to check out some reviews for those. Buns and Roses was fun. Annie from Booked and Loaded and I went together and sat with Ilona and Gordon Andrews who were our keynote speakers on Adult Literacy. It was so much fun. Those two are incredible. So funny, and have such great stories. I think I could sit and talk with them for hours. It was definitely worth me waiting until midnight for the tickets to their table to go on sale! However, I did forget to tell Annie about the bear tradition and BnR. Every year a certain amount of bears are made in some sort of costume. And sometimes there are special treats in the bears boxes. The bears are a mystery. You can order yours up front which is what I did, or you can take $20 cash to the event and wave it around like a crazy person and hope you get a bear. Unfortunately, I forgot to pass on that information to Annie. I felt horrible until Gordon Andrews pulls out a $20 and buys her a bear! How lucky is that?! I think that makes her bear more special than mine! The Andrews are so generous and kind. They are big, big stars in my eyes. I’m a major fangirl now, as if I wasn’t before!

In other news, the blog may be somewhat quiet for the next month or two. I hope to get at least my reviews up, but will have to see with timing. For some reason, we got it in our heads to buy a house. We’re in the middle of the process now with the house we picked, but the time for packing has begun. Unfortunately it means I will be breaking a lease. Please pray to whatever deity you follow that we are able to help our landlord get this place rented ASAP. I couldn’t afford to pay rent and mortgage. We pick the worst times to do things, but a major opportunity from family happened and it was impossible to pass up. I’m exited, but nervous scared, and tired already! I plan to keep up with comments the best I can so don’t be too worried if it is a day or two before I respond. I will go crazy without all of you to talk to!

In big news, my son has gotten engaged to the sweetest girl ever. It seems kind of surreal to me, but I’m excited for them. I can’t wait to see where their road leads. They still have a wedding to plan so hit up my son’s Etsy store to grab some great tie dye and jewelry. It’s called The Hippie Hideout and he has some amazing work in there. The stones really fascinate me. They are so pretty. So stop by and support my son and his wedding plans!

Ok, I’m freaked out. It is very early here and someone keeps ringing my doorbell. Twice since 6:30am. I don’t answer the door that early and I can’t imagine who would be out there this early. Of course if it was some mass murderer I’m sure they wouldn’t ring the doorbell. Me and my imagination!

Our Halloween was low key. I’m like the Grinch of Halloween because I didn’t pass out candy. With 8 dogs, the doorbell and their barking all night would have driven me insane. Maybe next year when we are in our new place, I’ll come up with a plan for the dogs so I’ll be able to enjoy it more. How was everyone else’s Halloween? Did you go to parties and dress up? Did you post pics on Instagram? If you did make sure you send me your Instagram user so I can make sure I follow you and can check out your costumes!

So that was my exciting October. I hope everyone else had a great one! Remember, posts may be slow in coming but I will be around as much as possible so don’t be shy about leaving comments! I want to hear all about your October and any fun stuff you may have done!

  • I have never been a big dress up for Halloween that much. But if I am in the mood for it I will or have a place to go. This year was a bit different. Just relaxed at home and made homemade chili and watched Blackbeard’s Ghost.

Congrats on your son getting married. That is just awesome there. I love that you love your future daughter in law. That is just great. Hope the wedding plans go smoothly.

I still can’t believe you haven’t read Terry Spear yet. She is just wonderful, and especially her earlier books in her series is my favorites. Next year I am so going to Buns and Roses.

    • Which series of of Terry’s did you like the most, so I know where to start? You definitely MUST go to Buns and Roses! It’s for a great cause and is always a lot of fun with the silent auctions, the gorgeous quilt raffle, the bears… it’s a lot of fun, plus we’d get to meet up! So awesome!

  • That bear was my FAVORITE! Seriously I was like I should have gotten 2 LOL 🙂 Great job on the budget.

    • I really loved this Bear too! I wish I had of made it last year. My collection is missing a bear and it is driving me crazy!

  • I love that bear. I wish I could go to those events. Maybe one year I will make it. You’re doing a great job on your budget. I got another credit from BN. I wasn’t expecting it. I don’t read much from them anymore because of my kindle, but I will find something I’m sure. Congrats on the house. I hate moving. I keep joking that my next move, I’ll just burn down the house and buy all new stuff (as if I could afford to buy all new stuff). Good luck on finding a new renter. That can be tough. I think it will all work out in the end.

    • That bear is definitely one of my favorites! That credit was a surprise. I thought all was said and done with the whole thing. I’m not complaining though! Moving sucks. I spent most of last weekend going through stuff and packing. In two days I got through my laundry room and my closet. That scares me that this is going to take a lot longer and a lot more work than I thought. To make it worse, my husband hates to ask for help, so we will be doing it alone. It near killed me last time. I know I said this last time, but I’m going to say it again. This is my LAST move! I really am praying it works out with the lease. I’m really stressed about that.

  • That bear is beyond cute. I love the Hidden Legacy series. I have one hardcover book signed by them and needs more!!

    • The bear is adorable! The Andrew’s gift bags had all 3 signed in them. I was SO happy! I love that series. I had two more hard covers I meant to get signed while we were at the table, but I forgot I had them until the actual signing began, and by then they had a line a mile long. Next time. With them living in Austin, I’m sure there will be some more closer events I can see them at.

  • The whole bear debacle was MEANT TO BE! LOL I do remember you asking about me preordering one, but since this was my first time and Buns and Roses, I had no idea what to expect! I just felt honored you invited me! You are rockin’ that budget – it is completely inspiring. We moved 2 years ago in December and I honestly didn’t even want to do a tree and the only reason we did was because of the (then) 10 year old.

    • I am SO glad you got a bear, I was feeling pretty bad for not explaining it better. I don’t know about decorations and a tree. Just may not be happening this year. We couldn’t have picked a worse time to move. Well, with the exception of August in TX! LOL
