Waiting on Wednesday is a feature hosted by Breaking The Spine. This is my anticipated book of the week!

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with an irresistible Original Heartbreakers story about a woman who’s never felt desired and the man who wants her more than air to breathe…

Bullied in high school, Dorothea Mathis’s past is full of memories she’d rather forget. But there’s one she can’t seem to shake—her long-standing crush on former army ranger Daniel Porter. Now that the sexy bad boy has started using her inn as his personal playground, she should kick him out…but his every heated glance makes her want to join him instead.

Daniel returned to Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, to care for his ailing father and burn off a little steam with no strings attached. Though he craves curvy Dorothea night and day, he’s as marred by his past as she is by hers. The more he desires her, the more he fears losing her.

But every sizzling encounter leaves him desperate for more, and soon Daniel must make a choice: take a chance on love or walk away forever.

I am behind a book in this series and am really hoping I can get caught up in time for this release. We did meet Dorothea in The Hotter You Burn and she seemed kind of a tragic case at that point. I’m really excited that she is getting her own book! I am glad that Gena decided to continue this series. I was afraid we were going to just end after the three main men that came to town settled down. Stretching this out into the town’s inhabitants is wonderful.

Can’t Hardly Breathe is number four in the Original Heartbreakers and releases on August 29, 2017. I’m normally a paranormal reader, and have read just about all of Gena’s PNR, and I think Gena does very well coming out into the contemporary field. Make sure you grab this series. If you are as big a fan of Gena Showalter as I am, you won’t want to miss any of her releases!

Original Heartbreakers Series

Reading this book contributed to these challenges:

  • I have never tried her contemporary books, this sounds interesting.

    • I was kind of hesitant about reading her contemporary at first, but I think she really pulled it off!

  • I have been curious about her contemporary small town series. I read one other contemporary standalone of hers and liked it. These do sound good and I’m glad you’re getting more stories to love.

    • I don’t read many contemporaries. I tend to stick to the PNR, but I love Gena so much I just had to read these. I found them a lot of fun.

  • This one is my WoW for one of the upcoming weeks 😀 Woot!!

    • Ha! Yes, I can’t wait for this one, although I have to go back and look because I MAY have missed the one before this and have to read that.

  • I love the covers for this series. So need to catch up with her.
