Determined to solve a string of brutal slayings in London, vampire warrior Mathias Rowan is forced to seek the help of Nova, a fiery tattoo artist who ignites an unexpected, yet undeniable, passion in the grim Order enforcer.

Nova’s shadowy connections and dark talents may be Mathias’s best hope of unmasking a treacherous enemy . . . but falling for a woman with her dangerous past will risk both their hearts and their lives.

I understand that this is a novella and we are trying to pack a lot into the story. I just felt like it was too “insta-love” for Mathias. He didn’t come out and say it right away, but he was pretty aware that Nova was the one for him. There was no fighting it, he just instinctively jumped in to protect her from everything, including his own people. It kind of turned me off his character.

I really enjoyed Nova. She was so feisty and just down to earth. She is smart and picks up on clues really fast to put everything together.

Things happened in the ending I was a bit surprised by, so it was kind of bittersweet.

This novella doesn’t really have any kind of impact on the main Midnight Breed storyline, so it would be ok to read as a stand-alone. I did kind of miss the regular Order guys.

About Lara Adrian

As a child, Lara Adrian used to sleep with the covers up around her neck, afraid she might become the midnight prey of deadly vampires. Later on, under the influence of Bram Stoker and Anne Rice, she had to wonder if her fear wasn't actually something else: a secret desire to walk in a darker world, to live a dangerous and sensual dream with a man of seductive, preternatural power. It is that twining of fear and desire that fuels Lara's own fantasies today, and the idea that she explores in her New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series of vampire romance novels from Bantam Dell Books.

With an ancestry stretching back to the Mayflower and the court of King Henry VIII, Lara Adrian lives with her husband in coastal New England, surrounded by centuries-old graveyards, hip urban comforts, and the endless inspiration of the broody Atlantic Ocean.

LARA ADRIAN is a New York Times and #1 international bestselling author with nearly 4 million books in print and digital worldwide and translations licensed in more than 20 countries.
