Belladonna Blackthorn hasn’t lost her magical spark . . . but she hasn’t seen it in a while, either.
Balancing work at her beloved Lunar Books with protecting it from her toxic boss, who’s running it into the ground, and all the while concealing her witchcraft from the non-wicches around her – Belle is burnt out. Perfecting the potential of her magic is the last thing on her mind.
But when her 30th birthday brings a summons from her coven, and a trial that tests her worthiness as a witch, Belle risks losing her magic forever. With the month of October to fix things, and signs that dark forces may be working against her, Belle will need all the help she can get – from the women in her life, from an unlikely mentor figure, and even an (infuriatingly handsome) watchman who’s sworn to protect her . . .
With found family, slow burn romance and an uplifting message about self-love, this is the cosy, autumnal read that you've been waiting for.

Belladonna (Belle) Blackthorn turns 30 and much to her surprise is greeted with a trial from her local coven to see if she is worthy of keeping her magic. Life has just got in the way, and she never really got around to exploring her magic. The coven agrees to let her do another trial, but if she fails that she will lose her magic forever. With just one month, Belle is faced with learning challenging spells, by her side though is a mentor that is determined to help her, and a sexy warlock that wants to protect her. What more could a girl ask for? I was at the edge of my seat wondering if Belle would be able to pass the trial.
Belle is a wreck at the start of the book. She is unhappy with the new manager at her job, she lets her magic take the backburner, and she is just overall not a confident person. I watched her struggle to believe in herself and as the story progressed you see her confidence begin to build. This led to great character growth, as well as magical growth. The story itself was entertaining; I was trying to figure out who the villain was along with Belle. Overall, if you are a fan of fantasy novels with magic you should check out this book!
