Top Ten Tuesday ~ Auto Buy Authors

Posted July 16, 2019 by Tanya in Top Ten / 0 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly list of 10 (or 2 or 5) of whatever this week’s prompt is from That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s list on Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl is auto buy authors. There are a few authors that I auto buy everything they release, but there are some authors that I only auto buy from a particular series they write. I think saying I auto buy everything a particular author writes is hard since so many of them are venturing outside the genres I know them for and I am just not ready to broaden my horizons. That sounds terrible, but I’m still fully stuck in my PNR, UF world. I can only think of three authors that I’ve actually gone out of my comfort zone and read their series that are outside of my genres.

Gena Showalter was one of the authors I actually followed out and read her contemporary series. She has written quite a few Young Adult and those I haven’t picked up. I will auto buy anything she releases in the Lords of the Underworld, Gods of War or Original Heartbreakers series.

About Gena Showalter

Gena Showalter is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of the spellbinding Lords of the Underworld and Angels of the Dark series, two young adult series--Everlife and the White Rabbit Chronicles--and the highly addictive Original Heartbreakers series. In addition to being a National Reader's Choice and two time RITA nominee, her romance novels have appeared in Cosmopolitan (Red Hot Read) and Seventeen magazine, she's appeared onNightline and been mentioned in Orange is the New Black--if you ask her about it, she'll talk for hours…hours! Her books have been translated in multiple languages.

She’s hard at work on her next novel, a tale featuring an alpha male with a dark side and the strong woman who brings him to his knees. You can learn more about Gena, her menagerie of rescue dogs, and all her upcoming books at or

Kresley Cole is another author I’ve actually jumped out and read her contemporary. I follow her Immortals After Dark and Game Maker series. I haven’t picked up her Young Adult series either.

About Kresley Cole

Kresley Cole is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the electrifying Immortals After Dark paranormal series and the young adult Arcana Chronicles. She has also written five award-winning historical romances.

Since her first novel was released in 2003, Kresley has published nineteen books with Simon & Schuster and has seen her releases translated into more than eighteen foreign languages. She has traveled over much of the world and draws from those experiences to create her memorable characters and settings. Two of her favorite places to visit include the rain forests of Central America and the Queensland area of Australia.

In 2007, Kresley won the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for best paranormal for her novel A Hunger Like No Other, and in January 2009, she became a #1 New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestseller with her sixth IAD installment, Kiss of a Demon King. In 2010, Kiss of a Demon King earned Kresley her second RITA award. 2011 brought Cole her second #1 NYT bestseller with Dreams of a Dark Warrior.

She lives in Florida with her husband and far too many animals. She spends any free time traveling and enjoys all things related to boats and water.

J.R. Ward had written many series that I’ve picked up automatically just because her name is on them. I’ve picked up the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Black Dagger Legacy, Bourbon Kings and her Firefighters series. I haven’t tried any of her previous books written under her Jessica Bird name.

About J.R. Ward

J.R. Ward is a #1 New York Times bestselling author with more than 15 million novels in print published in 25 different countries around the world. The books in her popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series have held the #1 spot on the New York Times hardcover, mass market, eBook, and combined print/eBook fiction bestseller lists and have debuted in the top 5 on the USA Today bestseller list. Prior to her writing career, Ward worked as a lawyer in Boston and spent many years as the Chief of Staff of one of Harvard’s world-renowned academic medical centers. Ward currently lives with her family in Kentucky where she has learned to enjoy and appreciate all things Southern.

I’ve read Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series for a long time and each installment in that series is an auto buy. I have not tried any of her contemporary.

About Lara Adrian

As a child, Lara Adrian used to sleep with the covers up around her neck, afraid she might become the midnight prey of deadly vampires. Later on, under the influence of Bram Stoker and Anne Rice, she had to wonder if her fear wasn't actually something else: a secret desire to walk in a darker world, to live a dangerous and sensual dream with a man of seductive, preternatural power. It is that twining of fear and desire that fuels Lara's own fantasies today, and the idea that she explores in her New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series of vampire romance novels from Bantam Dell Books.

With an ancestry stretching back to the Mayflower and the court of King Henry VIII, Lara Adrian lives with her husband in coastal New England, surrounded by centuries-old graveyards, hip urban comforts, and the endless inspiration of the broody Atlantic Ocean.

LARA ADRIAN is a New York Times and #1 international bestselling author with nearly 4 million books in print and digital worldwide and translations licensed in more than 20 countries. Her upcoming release is FOR 100 REASONS, the third book in a contemporary romance series that reviewers are calling "phenomenal" and "one of the hottest series of the year." Dannika Dark is a huge favorite for me right now. I think I’ve read everything of hers unless she has put out something under a different name. The audio to her Mageri, Seven and Crossbreed series is amazing and I’ve grabbed each one as it’s been released. I’m also trying to collect the paperback’s as the covers have been designed by the author and I love them.

About Dannika Dark

Dannika Dark is the USA Today Bestselling Author of Urban Fantasy Romance and Paranormal Romance books. Her books have sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, and she is a 2016 Audie Awards finalist. In addition to writing about supernatural worlds, Dannika is passionate about graphic design and creates all her own covers and series art. When not writing in her cave, she enjoys indie music, reading, Netflix, heaps of chocolate, and unleashing her dark side.

Nalini Singh is another author that I will grab anything PNR she writes. She is coming out with a thriller. I’m not sure if I’m going to pick it up, but I will grab everything Psy-Changeling, Psy-Changeling Trinity or Guild Hunter.

About Nalini Singh

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

I’m a late comer to Christine Feehan’s books, so there are SO many that I need to read. I fell in love with her Sisters of the Heart series and continued on into the Torpedo Ink series. The Shadow series is also one I picked up. Both of these series are auto buys. I need to pick up her Dark series, but there are SO many, I don’t know if I will be able to get caught up.

About Christine Feehan

Christine Feehan is a #1 New York Times bestselling author multiple times over with her portfolio including over 50 published novels, including five series; Dark Series, Ghostwalker Series, Leopard Series, Drake Sisters Series, & the Sisters of the Heart Series. All five series hit the #1 spot on the New York Times bestselling list as well. Her debut novel Dark Prince received 3 of the 9 Paranormal Excellence Awards in Romantic Literature (PEARL) in 1999. Since then she has been published by various publishing houses including Leisure Books, Pocket Books, and currently is writing for Berkley/Jove. She also has earned 7 more PEARL awards since Dark Prince.

I've been a writer all of my life -- it is who I am. I write for myself and always have. The ability to create pictures and emotions with words is such a miracle to me. I read everything; I mean everything! All kinds of books, even encyclopedias. I am fascinated by the written word and I love storytellers. It is a great privilege to be counted one myself.

Ilona Andrew writes some great stories. I follow a couple of their series and if anything is released in those series I will definitely pick up. Unfortunately the Kate Daniels series has ended. I was sad to see it go, but am excited by the way it was left and the possible series that could spin off from it. I will definitely pick up every one that does. I also love their Hidden Legacy series. I read their Edge books which I enjoyed.

About Ilona Andrews

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. author2sm“Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

I’ve truly enjoyed the Charley Davidson series and Darynda Jones’ releases in that series were auto buys. That series has ended now, and it will be awhile before she starts writing the spin off of that. Darynda is also reaching out and trying new genres. I’m unsure of whether I will pick that up or not.

About Darynda Jones

NYTimes and USA Today Bestselling Author Darynda Jones has won numerous awards for her work, including a prestigious RITA, a Golden Heart, and a Daphne du Maurier. As a born storyteller, she grew up spinning tales of dashing damsels and heroes in distress for any unfortunate soul who happened by, annoying man and beast alike. She currently has two series with St. Martin's Press, the Charley Davidson Series and the Darklight Trilogy. Darynda lives in the Land of Enchantment, also known as New Mexico, with her husband of more than 25 years and two beautiful sons, the Mighty, Mighty Jones Boys.

I got swept up with Donna Grant’s Dark King series. I pick them up with every release as well as the Reaper books. I haven’t gotten to them all yet, but I’ve grabbed them. I really want to go back and read all the series leading up to the Dark Kings books. Now I’ve stuck to her PNR and haven’t tried her contemporary.

About Donna Grant

Donna Grant is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the sizzling Dark King series featuring dragons, immortal Highlanders, and the Fae.

She was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.

Despite deadlines and voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two children, four cats, and one long haired Chihuahua.

Those are my top ten. Have to keep in mind that my “auto buy” consists of the author’s PNR or UF series. I haven’t been adventurous and tried much outside of those genres.
