I am so excited to have the author of the Dark Kings series, Donna Grant, here with us today! We are celebrating the upcoming release of Soul Scorched on June 30th, 2015. Soul Scorched is book 6 in the Dark Kings series and features Warrick and Darcy.
Darcy was floating on a cloud of pure passion. Everywhere he touched, Warrick was leaving a mark on her, forever changing her. She could feel it through her skin and muscle, through bone and into her soul. It was as if he was changing her. And she welcomed it…
Her power is a blessing.
Born on the Isle of Skye, Darcy is a beautiful woman of many gifts. Fortune-telling is her forte, and she remains the only Druid who could unlock the secrets—and desires—of a Dragon King. His name is Warrick. And now that Darcy’s seen into his dragon heart, nothing will ever be the same…
His passion is a curse.
Warrick never intended to put Darcy in harm’s way. But ever since she revealed a shocking truth, Darcy has been hunted by the Dark Fae, who want to use her powers for their own evil purposes. Now it’s up to Warrick to do whatever it takes to keep the woman who sets his soul on fire safe. But protecting Darcy means putting himself—and his entire race—in jeopardy. Is his desperate longing for one woman worth the risk of losing everything… for eternity?

Today we have the mastermind behind these amazing Dragon Kings with us and we’re going to see what goodies she’ll give up!
Welcome Donna! We are so honored that you could take the time to be with us and answer some of our questions. We’ll try not to trick you into spoilers! 😉
RRA: Previous series spin off into each new one. When you’ve started each of your series, have you planned on spinning it off at the end to a whole new setting?
DG: Actually, no. I was intending to keep the Dark Sword series as a historical series until my editor suggested taking them to modern times. I was really bummed about wrapping the Dark Sword/Dark Warriors series up, but to my surprise, my editor came to me and said she wanted me to do a spin off series. I knew immediately what I wanted to do – dragons!
It was really easy to integrate the Dragon Kings in with the Warriors. I love the world that I created. Then, last year my editor came to me again and said that they wanted me to do another spin-off from the Dragon Kings. I again had the perfect solution – the Fae – who are part of the DK world.
RRA: We’re going to get a series with the Fae too?! I can’t wait!
RRA: The Warriors and their lives seem to be crossing more and more into the Kings world, will they be involved in the final battle between the Kings?
DG: I wish I knew. Lol. I don’t plot out any of my books, and I only have a very narrow idea of how the overall arc of a series will play out. So I’m always as surprised as readers are when I’m writing my books. That being said, the Dragon Kings have a lot of enemies, but they also have a lot of allies. It’s going to take everyone in the end.
RRA: Will the final confrontation between Ulrick and Con be the end of the Dark Kings?
DG: When I first began writing the DK books, I thought that’s exactly how it would play out. Then again, I had no idea how many more Dragon Kings would need their stories to be told or how much Ulrik – and Con for that matter! – would take me on such a roller coaster of a ride. Ulrik and Con will get their confrontation. Will it be the end of the DKs? I don’t think so. 🙂
RRA: There has been so much build up between Rhi and her King, will she get her own book? The suspense is killing me!
DG: I knew the first time Rhi walked onto the pages of a Dark Warrior book that she was a character I had to know more about. She integrated herself in the Dragon Kings in a way that I knew was going to be something great. I get this question from readers several times a day. Yes, Rhi will get her own book, and yes her DK lover will be revealed eventually. As we go down that path, Rhi is going to take us on a bumpy ride as she tries to maneuver through all that she’s gone through – as well as what’s ahead of her.
RRA: Now that we’ve had so many of the Kings wake, is that a prelude to how many books we will get in the series?
DG: I have an idea of how many books will be in the DK series, but it has changed several times since the first stories released. I don’t like to put a hard number to it because I like to see where the characters take me. And I’ll keep writing these books as long as readers keep asking for them. 🙂
RRA: Have you been able to do much exploring in Ireland and Scotland for your research? What about these places made you want to use them as your settings?
DG: I’ve spent a lot of time in Scotland, and yes many of the places I put in the books I’ve spent plenty of time exploring. I’ve not, however, gotten to Ireland, and I need to rectify that soon with the Reaper series coming!
RRA: You’ve written a LOT of different paranormal creatures. If you had to live full time in just one of their worlds, which would it be?
DG: Oh, that’s easy – the dragons. As much as I love the Warriors and Druids and witches and all the other paranormal worlds I’ve written, there is just something really special about the Dragon Kings.
RRA: Do you read in the paranormal genre yourself, or do you have another go to genre?
DG: I read all genres of romance. I also like thrillers. I have my favorite authors, but sometimes I just like to go into my local bookstore and browse the shelves until I find a cover/story that looks interesting.
RRA: I’ve read you have both cats and a dog. Which do you prefer? Why?
DG: I’m an animal person. I’ve saved a baby armadillo, baby squirrels, many stray cats and dogs, and even helped my fair share of birds and any other animal that comes my way. I recently acquired another dog who came up starving to my house. Sampson (aka Sammy) is now all mine. 🙂 But if you ask anyone who knows me, they’ll tell you I’m a cat person through and through.
I was always the kid on my street that people sent for when there was a feral cat around or one that was just scared. I was always able to calm them and eventually tame them. I’m not a cat whisperer, but for some reason they trust me and allow me to help them.
RRA: Are you a fan of the Texas heat or do you like to head north?
DG: I much prefer the heat. The cold is not my friend. lol
RRA: Coming from Canada and now living in the heat of Texas, I completely agree with you! 😉
RRA: I like pics of furbabies. Would you like to share a couple of yours?
DG: I would love to!
They are all so beautiful! I’m excited that you are into animal rescue. It is so important for these babies that can’t speak for themselves to have someone that can give them the love and care they need. Thank you for what you do, both for your obsessed readers and the sweet animals!
Thank you for being with us today Donna! We want everyone to live in the world of the Dragon Kings with us, so we are giving away a full paperback set of the series so far! I’m so excited about this prize, and having others get as excited about the Kings as we are. Don’t forget to share the post so all your friends can get entered too!
