Olivia thinks it’s her lucky night when a dangerously handsome unconscious fae ends up on her inspection table. He’s her chance to redeem herself with her employer, the demon-hunting organisation, Archangel. But when the tall, dark and deadly immortal warrior awakes, she gets much more than she bargained for…
Attacked by his enemy in the elf kingdom, the last thing Prince Loren expects when he comes around is a beautiful angel watching over him and medical technology of the mortal realm. Hazy from his injuries, all he can focus on is the pulse ticking in her throat and the sweet allure of her blood.
One single bite reveals she is his eternal mate, triggering a bond between them that will leave him weakened until it is complete… or broken, and pulling Olivia into the crossfire of his ancient feud.
To protect his people and his mate from the machinations of a madman, Loren must risk everything by working with Olivia at Archangel to find a way to break the bond blossoming between them.
But will Loren be strong enough to place duty before desire and give up the one thing he has waited millennia for and craves above all others—his eternal mate? And will Olivia be able to resist the incredible heat that burns between them and the temptation of her dark prince’s kiss?
The world in this book was a lot of fun. You don’t get to see elves very often and the way they are set up in the world is original. They are old, really old. I mean, if you think vampires are old, elves have that beat hands down.
Loren is the prince of the elves and has been trying to find his brother for centuries. He is supposed to kill him, but has not been able to bring himself to do it. Even when he finds his fated one, it seems in the end he will be left with nothing. I really felt for the prince and just wanted something good for him. His station in life seems to want to prevent him from that and his existence just seemed like a long, lonely road.
Olivia has not had a lot of luck in her life either. Relationships and career have sort of taken a nose dive for her. When Loren comes around, the possibility that it could be something good, totally escapes her. I think she doesn’t believe she is worth something good. She is determined to get rid of that bond fast so she can keep herself from getting her life turned upside down again.
I felt so bad for these characters that I just wanted to make them stop trying to break this bond! Let themselves have at least ONE freaking good thing.
The side characters were great! Sable is a kickass friend for Olivia and Bleu is the same for Loren. I SO want these two together. They seem to be attracted to each other, but there might be one very BIG obstacle. I can’t wait to see how that works out in book two.
I have to talk about the action/fighting scenes. I love how they were done. They were so fast paced I found I was racing through. Although sometimes I had to go back and reread a line or two to figure out who actually threw a certain blow. The fight at the end wasn’t one of those “wham bam and done” and it ended sort of final, but with potential for more storyline, so it wasn’t completely wrapped up. One of the story lines left open I was really hoping would have some closure, for the happiness of one of the characters. I guess that just means I will have to keep reading to find out what happens!
I definitely recommend this book to paranormal romance readers. The romance was good, and the sex was there, just didn’t border on erotica. Plus, elves are such a mystery as I haven’t read about many of them. Maybe there are more out there than I think, but I haven’t come across many. Elves may just be the new “in”!
