Vampires were made, not born—until Elisa Sullivan came along. As the only vampire child in existence, she grew up with a heavy legacy, and tried to flee her past. Then circumstances drew her back to Chicago, and she stayed to keep it safe. With shifter Connor Keene, the only son of Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, at her side, she faced down a supernatural evil that threatened to destroy Chicago forever.
After the dust from the attack has settled, Elisa is surprised when Connor invites her to a usually private Pack event in the north woods of Minnesota, and by the warm welcome she receives from some of Connor’s family, even though she’s a vampire. But the peace doesn’t last. The shifters tell tales of a monster in the woods, and when the celebration is marred by death, Elisa and Connor find themselves in the middle of a struggle for control that forces Elisa to face her true self—fangs and all.

Wicked Hour is the second book in the Heirs of Chicagoland series. We’ve moved on from Merit and Ethan and now follow there daughter Elisa. In Wicked Hour, we’ve moved out of Chicago and into the woods of Minnesota. It really helps to establish Elisa as her own character, apart from Cadogan House.
Connor Keene, son of the Apex of the North American Central Pack, has grown out of his young wild ways and is preparing to become Alpha. The trip to Minnesota is kind of a way of establishing his power. The trip is to welcome an addition to the pack, but is also to investigate a clan that is having a lot of trouble between the elders and the younger generation. Connor thinks Elisa would be the perfect person to help him really grasp what is going on there. He may also have other reasons to bring her along. The budding romance is nice to see. It was anticipated from the previous series that these two would come together, so it really isn’t much of a surprise. But it will be interesting to see how her being a vampire and him being a shifter will affect their relationship.
The politics and the magical mystery are right up Elisa’s alley. I love our eventual discovery, it was fascinating to see what the magic did to the shifters. Elisa also makes a big step in this installment and I think we get some good growth in her character as well as the romantic relationship. I enjoyed Wicked Hour and am excited to see how Elisa progresses in the next book!
