The conclusion to the Mageri series, Shine, blew me away. I didn’t think it could get any better than the previous book, Gravity, but I was wrong.
Silver and the gang have been through a lot. More and more of the side characters have been fleshed out and I came to care about the things happening to them almost as much as what was going on in Silver’s life.
This installment didn’t hold much action until near the end. We have a lot of build up. Silver is away from things for most of the book so she’s staying out of trouble while her friends do the legwork that needs done to save someone’s life. As I’ve found with this author, you can’t be sure of a positive outcome of something like that. My emotions were kept on edge as I waited to see what Dannika Dark had in store for this character.
Even though everyone is working towards helping Silver, they all seem to be going through things in their lives that keep their stories running alongside the main one. The switching the author does between first and third person is seamless and didn’t confuse me at all.
There are so many words that can be said about the events in Shine. We learn so much more about Silver and answers to questions of her lineage are revealed. I feel like I can’t express how exciting, heart-stopping and emotional Shine was. I would never have guessed at the beginning of this series that I would have fallen so hard for these characters and the lives they lead. I was blown away! I’m going to miss this series. I will read the Mageri World book as well as the novellas because I just can’t get enough.
The narration, once again, was spot on. I had difficulty during times of whispering, but I don’t think that is the narrator’s fault, I think it was production. The words just weren’t as clear as they could have been. Nicole Poole did an amazing job with this series and I’m glad to see that she continues on with the narration of other Dannika Dark books. Perfect matches shouldn’t be changed!
Since this series is older and has come to it’s conclusion, it’s perfect for someone to start up and finish in no time. I definitely recommend the audio, but I’m sure you’ll love this just as much reading it.
