Today I’m going to do a book tag I saw over on Under The Cover’s Youtube channel. It’s called the Mid Year Freak Out. It’s a lot of questions that really had me thinking about the year so far. The answers are likely going to be coming just off the top of my head without much analyzing, so I might not have very good explanations for my choices. So here goes.

1. Best book you’ve read in 2017

I absolutely loved the bears. This book made me laugh and cry. It stood out the best amongst all the other books I’ve read this year.

2. Best sequel you’ve read in 2017.

Since I read mostly series, I think this question was wide open to everything I read. I didn’t want to chose Silver Silence again so I’m going to go with The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston.

3. New Release you haven’t read yet but you want to.

This was one I really had to just pick out of a hat. I have quite a few new releases on my list I want to get to. This is just one of them. I definitely need to organize my review books better so I can fit in some of the new releases I’m dying to read!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

White Trash Zombie Unchained by Diana Rowland

I love the narration of this series and the narrator really makes it shine. I can’t wait to be back in Angel’s world!

5. Biggest disappointment of the year.

Indecent Werewolf Exposure. I was expecting more story with this. I’m not sure if it’s the narrator that is putting me off the last two Eve Langlais books I’ve listened to or what. There didn’t seem to be much story line besides the romantic ties that were going on and very little coverage of the baddie that was killing witches. It just didn’t live up to my expectations.

6. Most surprising book this year.

I was really happy with EXILED. Phoebe takes a really big role in this book. She gets left alone and gets herself out of situations virtually on her own. She really grew in this book.

7. Favorite new author.

Ella Summers is a new to me author. I really enjoyed Vampire’s Kiss and can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series.

8. Newest fictional crush.

Valentin has swept me off my feet. He is so romantic and really works at getting what he wants. Which of course was Silver. I don’t think he would have had to try so hard if it was me! 🙂

9. Newest favorite character.

One of my new favorite characters is Zander Montclieff from the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley. I’m trying not to use the same book twice here, otherwise it would be Valentin from Silver Silence! Zander makes me laugh and has such an adventurous nature. He is one of the very few Healers and has been hiding out in Alaska for many years. That is until a feral wolf needs to be healed. Now he is in the lower 48 most of the time doing what he should have been doing all along. Should I mention that he is also a bear? I think bears have climbed the list of my favorite shifters!

10. Book that made me cry.

This one is hard because there are very few books that make me cry. Always A Wanderer is the most recent for me and even then it was only a small scene. It takes a lot to make me cry.

11. Book that made me happy.

I picked Bound Together because in the end it is like not just one person getting an HEA, but a whole group starting completely new lives. They were all being accepted and I really enjoyed that. The side characters in this book tug at your heart. I know there is going to be a spin off for these characters so I should be saying an HEA “for now”. The ending just made me smile.

12. Favorite book to movie adaptation this year.

I have not watched any book to movie adaptations this year.

13. Favorite book review I’ve posted so far.

I’m hyper-critical of all my reviews and I can’t single out one favorite out of all of them. I would say the reviews I posted before I got so behind in reviews were better.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year.

Deadmen Walking by Sherrilyn Kenyon has a gorgeous cover and the inside is pretty too. Just had to have this book!

15. What books do you need to read before the end of the year.

I have such a long list I won’t even start naming them off. I have a review list I need to get through and a personal list of books I want to get to just because it’s almost time for the next book in the series to come out!

So that was my Mid Year Freak Out. That last question about how many books I have left to read this year gave me quite a hit of anxiety and made me want to go read now! I’ll give myself a good chunk of reading time tonight.

Now it’s your turn. You’ve been tagged to write your own Mid Year Book Tag. Make sure to tag me so I can read your answers! Also if you see any book tags out in the wild you would like to see me do, go ahead and send me a link. Sometimes it is hard to find tags that aren’t repetitive.
