"A malignant secret could turn her mountain sanctuary into their tomb."

DEA agent Nick McKenzie is sure magic exists - a dangerous drug called Smoky Mountain Magic that's wreaking havoc on the streets of Atlanta. He's also sure that locating and eliminating the source could mean his death.

When he arrives undercover on Woodruff Mountain, the beautiful owner's anxious attempts to scare him off tell him something's afoot, and it s not her secret patch of a rare, ancient species of ginseng.

As her dream of seeking medicinal plants in the Amazon fades into the distance, Grace Woodruff struggles to come to terms with an inherited magical gift she didn't want, and searches desperately for the meaning behind her late grandfather's final, cryptic message.

The last thing she needs underfoot is a handsome, enigmatic writer recovering from a recent illness. Until an accidental touch unleashes a stunning mystical force and Grace senses the wrath of a malicious blight at the heart of the mountain. Now she must choose between her need to hide her gift from the world and her desire to save Nick s life.

Warning: This book contains a fiery redhead whose magic cannot be contained and a handsome DEA agent whose final case might give him a second chance at life.

More Than Magic takes magic to the earthly, environmentally friendly level. Grace is a medical doctor, but her roots take her back to basics and herbal remedies. When her grandfather dies and she is brought back to their ancestral mountain. Her abilities build gradually and the effects confuse Grace. She is a doctor, everything should be scientifically explainable, but she does not trust the unknown. If she can’t explain the miracles she is creating, she doesn’t trust what side effects might come. This is her reasoning for resisting acknowledging the feelings Nick seems to have for her.

Nick is in for more than he anticipates when he visits Woodruff Mountain investigating rumors of the mountain producing more than just amazing herbal medicines. Nick gets swept up in the magic the mountain produces as well as the magic a certain doctor puts off.

The secrets of the mountain are interesting and definitely different. I have read stories of magic coming from Mother Earth, but this feels like more than that. It is as if the mountain comes alive with it’s magic and defending itself. The descriptions of the hidden caves and natural occurring magic added to the mystery of the mountain’s agony.

More Than Magic had a great climax and ending once all the puzzle pieces starting falling into place. There’s lots of history and more than one crazy old lady! Nick and Grace make a great couple, and even though you think they have progressed in their relationship, Grace’s concerns about the side effects of her magic rear their ugly head. I have to admit, I cried a little here. I don’t cry often, but this one got me which just made the ending even more satisfying.

Here’s some great news! More Than Magic will be on sale for $0.99 from now until November 15th! Go check out your favorite retailer and snatch this up! You really should read the book too, not just stare at the cover for an hour like I did! The cover for this book is amazing!

About Donna June Cooper

DONNA JUNE COOPER writes contemporary romance with a touch of magic. The Books of the Kindling revolve around the “old magic” hidden beneath Woodruff Mountain and the individuals who hear the echoes of its ancient song. The first and second books in the series, More Than Magic and Mostly Magic, are available now from Samhain Publishing. Making Magic, the third book, is coming soon!

When she's not being dragged down the sidewalk by her Jack Russell (if you know Jacks, you understand), Donna June Cooper is belly dancing (shiny!), reading (three books at once), writing (of course!) or complaining about the heat (no matter the temperature). A child of the Appalachians who was transplanted to Texas by her Italian husband, Donna returns to her mountain roots as often as possible, and takes us with her in the Books of the Kindling.
